In Living Colour

A life with autism is not a diminished one, and different ways of experiencing and communicating our place in the world are both appreciated and celebrated in this piece by local artist Maddy Butcher in collaboration with the New England Center for Children.

The theme is “Together”, and the mural transformed an empty wall into a beautiful piece of public art. The piece is a double portrait of Alisha and Pratish, real people who live with autism. Their portraits are surrounded by twelve different drawings created by the students of the New England Center for Children.

The mural features bright, vivid colours that mirror their personalities while also signifying the fact that life with autism is also rich and imaginative. The mural conveys the message that each of us have our own ways of interacting with the world and the people around us, and they all are worthy of celebration.
