Mother Portal
The nation’s journey from a history filled with rich tradition to a future that is bright with success and achievement has been captured in this modern, yet old-school piece by artist Rollan Rodriguez in collaboration with the students of NYU Abu Dhabi.
The theme is “Journey”, and the mural depicts the all-governing mother, shown in the form of modern Emirati woman, gazing at a brave new world of media and technology from behind a pair of fashionable sunglasses. Her hands are constantly weaving communicating the intricacies our nation’s journey. The mural shows the meeting of the past in the form of a polaroid and an infinite future.
The piece also features seven cubes that represent each emirate whose people hold tradition dearly while constantly looking towards a future of endless possibilities.
