Save the Day
The importance, beauty and playfulness of memory is encapsulated in this colourful and energetic one-of-a-kind mural created by local artist, Marwan Shakarchi in collaboration with the New York Institute of Technology.
The theme is “Memory”, and the mural focuses on a woman standing with her head in the clouds. Her brain, an homage to the seat of our memories, is laid bare and vulnerable showcasing its effect on us as individuals. The piece also features specific flowers that were planted in Abu Dhabi as a tribute to the city.
Some of the features of the mural are the wavy lines, that depict both the ocean and the sand dunes, and the palm trees that represent the paradise that is the city of Abu Dhabi. While the bottom of the mural roots the piece to the Earth, the feathers falling from above suggest much more to reach for.
