Spirit of Hospitality
An ode to the warmth of Emirati culture and a tribute to HH Sheikha Fatima, this piece by Paul Bruwer in collaboration with the students of Zayed University transformed a park wall into a one-of-a-kind mural that sparks curiosity and imagination.
The theme is “Spirit”, and the mural features a woman in a battoulah at its heart. The ageless figure of hospitality holds an oud burner in her hands signifying the rich history and warm traditions of the region. The piece also features a female guest holding a glass of coffee in her outstretched arm.
The mural depicts the two women standing underneath an Arabesque doorframe and a starry sky. The piece speaks towards the importance of passing on traditional gestures of hospitality and having pride in the culture and customs of our past.
